SOLDIER! SEEK NOT YET REPOSE

      I once noticed a fellow soldier during our duty hours hours, abandoning his post and setting down his weapons; he was still dressed in his military attire as he walked off, disappearing amongst the civilians. I couldn't help but wonder what had captured his interest in the midst of the crowd, as he would not heed the warnings from others; his decision was resolute.

It soon dawned on me that he was yearning to indulge in the pleasures of life, which seemed far more accessible among the civilians, while in the military we were disciplined daily to ensure we remained prepared for action at any given moment, whether day or night.

      About ten hours after he left, we received news that he had been killed by the enemy.

 Just like that! Indeed!

Recall that he was alone in a perilous situation, unarmed yet still in uniform, rendering him an easy and immediate target for the adversary.

In an instant, someone we all recognized as skilled and formidable in combat was taken down without a fight.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen, and the instruments of battle have been lost!

      As believers, we are soldiers of Christ who are always on duty, called to a life of sanctification, consecration, and discipline. While we may feel tempted by worldly pleasures from within, we must continually rely on God to help us overcome them as we also cling to the cross each day.

Living a life that appears godly (the military uniform) but denying its true power (abandoning the weapons; such as consecration, sanctification, prayer, the Word, etc.) leaves one vulnerable to the enemy.

       Are our hearts straying from God’s standards to the deceiving 'comforts' of the world?

It’s time to earnestly pray for divine guidance in our lives, asking God to help us maintain our focus on the hope of our calling while protecting us from distractions.

Understand that one who is devoted to [worldly] pleasures is spiritually dead while still alive, and be assured that genuine [godly] pleasures reside with God, for at His right hand are joys forevermore.

        Dear fellow soldier, do not abandon your weapons, do not wander in solitude, always return to your duty, and keep your eyes away from the lifestyle of the civilians (it may suit them, but it is perilous for you) to avoid becoming prey for the enemy.

'Christian! seek not yet repose.'

• Principalities and powers,

mustering their unseen array,

wait for thy unguarded hours;

'watch and pray.'

• Gird thy heavenly armour on,

wear it ever night and da lies the evil one;

'watch and pray.'
